- It appears to be based on the real-life Knight's Armament ChainSAW, a concept machinegun developed around the KAC Stoner 98 LMG.
- The name is likely a pun on the word "chainsaw" as the noise from the high rate of fire of light machine guns can be compared to the noise a chainsaw makes when cutting.
