Protect the operative

An Operative in combat, note the Hacking Device

The Operative is a Class featured in Brink.

Overview

Infiltrate enemy lines, interrogate opponents for intelligence and sabotage the enemy's efforts.

The Operative functions as the special forces or spy who focuses on flanking the enemy to sabotage their efforts. Operatives come equipped with a Portable Hacking Device, used to gain control of various devices and complete Hacking Objectives. They can also disguise themselves as enemy players, allowing them to successfully infiltrate enemy lines in order to complete their tasks.

The Operative spends most of their time behind enemy lines, away from their teammates. As such, the Operative has several abilities aimed to indirectly combat the enemy and facilitate quick escapes when necessary.

Hacking

Operative Hacking

Hacking an Objective

Hacking may be done short or long ranged, but the closer you are the faster the object is hacked. This must be done by connecting to the terminal you intend to hack, i.e. getting in close contact.

While you are hacking you may move around within the hacking range, but you emit a beeping sound. If you are interrupted you may momentarily stop hacking and reconnect at the terminal when the area is safe.

Engineers can reverse the progress of a hack using their repair tool. If the progress is reset to 0, the hacking terminal is removed and must be replaced before an Operative can begin hacking again.

Disguise

Operative Disguise

Disguising as enemies

Operatives can also disguise themselves as enemies by approaching any downed opponent and interacting with their body, even if the body type is different. If an enemy spots you while interacting, the disguise will fail.

Your actions are a big part of how enemies know who is friend and who is foe. Friendly fire is enabled by default, and as such, enemies must be careful when checking for disguised Operatives.

Disguises are removed if the Operative fires or interacts with an Objective. They may also be removed if the player is hit by an enemy Homing Beacon, according to the description on the Standard Operative Kit.
