: That's just a guess, I'm thinking about it logically. Think of a sword against a knife. The sword has a longer reach, but is clumsier than a knife, which is agile, but you need to be closer to your target to do anything with it.

To be honest, the bayonet is pretty useless. Its benefit is greatly outweighed on almost all weapons by the lack of having another, more useful bottom attachment. I've used the bayonet on all my main weapons that can accept it, and it has no real improvement on any of them (mostly because I hardly ever melee, but when I do I like to knock people over). Just a thought, but wouldn't the bayonet be slower than the standard knife, but have a longer reach? It is attached to the end of a heavy weapon, instead of just being held in your free hand.
